Jeiko vom Jakobsbrunnen "Fritz" was honored as the SMCNA's first Dog of the Decade. Fritz is owned by Ned and June Sengpiel of Kewaskum, Wisconsin. Fritz was unanimously selected by the Executive Committee and the Breed Council as the Small Munsterlander that has made the most outstanding contribution to the breed during the decade of the 1990s.
Fritz was bred in Germany by Gregor Schmidt, was whelped on November 24, 1986, and was imported in March 1987. He is brown and white with cape and stands 21 inches. His breeding was outstanding, and the 14 dogs in his previous three generations included seven VGP I prizes (the equivalent of a NAVHDA UT I), four were VGP prized, and the remaining three were HZP prized.
Fritz's accomplishments are as follows:
" 1st SMP to earn a UT Prize I
" Only dog to sire four UT Prize I dogs
" Fritz and four of his offspring comprise five of the eight (now ten) UT Prize I SMPs
" 1st SMP to run in the NAVHDA Invitational
Fritz was selected, not only because of his performance in the field, but also because he was able to pass on his abilities:
" One daughter (Aryan) ran in the 1998 NAVHDA Invitational
" Three of his offspring will run in the 2000 Invitational
" Sired two litters that received NAVHDA Breeders Awards
" Only SMP to sire a litter receiving NAVHDA Utility Breeders Award
Fritz was the sire or grand sire of litters by 12 different bitches. Of his offspring, 57 dogs were tested in Natural Ability: 21 were Prize I, 17 were Prize II, 9 were Prize III and 10 did not prize. 52 dogs were tested in Utility: 4 were Prize I, 24 were Prize II, 17 were Prize III, and 7 did not prize.
Ned and June were awarded a crystal bowl and a framed certificate.
